Best time of the day to go for a fitting is mid-afternoon because that's when your feet tend to be at their most swollen.

Also, if you already own some, take the socks you are most likely to be wearing whilst out walking.

Have used Brashers for years. My first pair lasted 15 years and only succumbed after I used them at work on a building site for a year. I now have a pair of Brasher trailmasters and have had them eight years, they get used 5 times a week for a four mile walk and are in fine condition because I look after them. I expect to get twenty years or more from these.

Hello all, just to update I still hav'nt found a pair of boots yet, I'v done loads of research following the advice of you guys and come to the conclusion that I want a pair of all leather boots that are going to last, but the stuff I'v looked at are all mixed with synthetic materials. For example Scarpa use fake leather in their ankle to create more flex. Brasher were bought out by Berghaus and the quality is an issue.

Whilst all this high tec stuff has a place I just want a traditionaly made pair of boots.

Who said there was a quality issue with Brasher's?

When did the take over take place?

Personally, I find Brasher's practically indestructible.

Hello Steve I cant remember where I read it- somewhere on line-. I have trawled through that many reviews.  I went into a berghaus store to try their boots and the only boots they had in was berghaus and brasher so I suspect that they were taken over.  I really liked the Brasher they were one of the few boots I found comfortable, but the reviews I read about the soles wearing out put me off.  However, I have still kept my options open. I was told that the older Brasher boots were indestructable.  If I could find a new older pair I would buy them without hesitation.

Brasher Hillmasters every time. They are tough and lightweight which makes a big difference if you are doing a lot of miles. The all leather finish is very practical - just wipe the mud off after going through a swamp. They are waterproof (Gortex) but I periodically polish/wax to stop the leather cracking. As I live by the sea. I also put a bit of boot wax onto the steel eyelets to prevent rust from salt water

Good luck

Dave

I've had Brasher boots for about 8 years. Went for them as I never seemed heavy enough to break-in the other leather boots I'd tried. My brashers are breathable, lightweight and the sole can almost bend double when bent by hand, so nice and flexible. They've been comfortable from day one and with the odd polish with the dedicated stuff they will last a fair few years yet.

Love our set-up and need no more tents or gear, so trying to stop looking!

I'd go Zamberlan. I bought a pair for £3 in a charity shop, and walked over eleven thousand miles in them.  When I got them, they had some cracking in the upper, but I treated the leather and it lasted for years after that. The soles were still in good condition, and I found them light weight to wear compaired to others I've had. I bought another make last year, and they lasted less than a year before they fell apart.  Using a pair of Hi Tech now, as no funds for a top class pair, and walking less.

Canvas tent, paraffin light, petrol stove. Heaven
I'd rather be kayaking.
Spent up, not pent up, just had my new tent up.
