I think splash proof sockets are a good idea its the price i don,t like, if there is an alternative.

Its principle behind elecrical safety in the UK that no single failure of a component should present a significant hazard.

Thats why when there is the potential for damp the sockets should be protected, you should not be relying on the RCD to make the unit safe, RCDs can and do fail to operate, although it is rare.

Thats why the EHUs you see in camping shops have damp protection for the housing and sockets.

How much extra does a EHU cost with damp protected sockets ?

Indeed, and if you get a fatal shock, you can hardly take the defective EHU back for a refund, can you ?

Hi Everyone

I recently won an auction on e-bay for a EHU lead, the price started at 99p+£6-oo P&P. I won as I was the only bidder at 99p, and it came but as the auction described it has NO sockets on the end of it but the lead is the orange type very heavy duty cable and 18m long, it has the EHU plug fitted, any suggestions as to the type of sockets to fit ie, 2,4,6,?

Any advise would be most welcome.

Regards

 Steve.

I doubt its the advice you want to hear, but I would suggest spending the £60-£80 that will get you a ready assembled EHU lead.

Hi Steve, why not just put a blue 16A socket on the other end and use it as an extension for when you are a long way from the campsite supply. For safety, as Stuart said, buy a proper hookup with all the connectors and safety devices fitted and tested by a reputable manufacturer.

Phil.
