We have 2 single double height airbeds, & we fall into the 50/60 bracket!! we find the extra height brilliant for the old joints!  we have never had a problem with leaks or going soft - pump up at dusk when the air is cooler, & follow advice as above with insulation.

we are the wrong side of 50 and swear by our aerobed Actives (singles) - they are deeper than an ordinary airbed and very comfortable - I've slept on ours whilst camping after I broke my hip.  As mentioned before, plenty of insulation and good quality sleeping bags/covers.  I've just had my new aerobed delivered - on offer last week on aerobed website.

Thought I would just add my thoughts too!

We got the double height Jileon airbed from Tesco last year - slept on it for two weeks, plus a weekend away, and no problems with it at all.  Had to top it up every couple of nights but with the built in pump this wasn't a problem.  I loved being a bit higher off the floor.

We put a silver backed picnic rug on the floor under the airbed, a fleece blanket on top followed by a fitted sheet, and then last year we used our duvet from home although we plan to invest in a sleeping bag this year - the duvet takes up too much room in the car!  I can honestly say that we were never cold at night, and slept really well.
