For 2 adults and one child we have:

One large lidded plastic box for all kitchen stuff, plates, bowls, cutlery etc

One foldable crate for other things such as first aid kit, lighting, repair kits, duct tape, kettle etc

One large holdall for clothing - I also pack a Ikea blue bag for washing in this.

One Aldi shopping/ picnic basket (can get similar ones in GO) for food

My son also calls it OCD (apollomitchell)

I call it Organised

I have 2 plastic storage boxes, one for all the cooking and eating stuff and one for all the odds and sods - torches, lanterns, dustpan and brush, emergency repair and first aid kits, etc. Spare batteries are ina small tupperware type thing in that box.

We keep the cutlery in a carpenter's "bit roll" and cooking utensils in chisel roll, that way they don't clatter about throughout a long journey or get lost at the bottom of the plastic crate.

Bed, pump and bedding are in an Ikea bag, blankets (both picnic and fleece) in a big laundry bag.

Dog stuff (it's surprising how much of that there is) lives in a big canvas shopping bag that has a pic of a lakeland terrier on the front!

Big things - cooker, gas bottle, table and chairs, dogs' beds - go it alone.

Clothes go in holdalls. We take 2 small ones each as it's easier to find room for several small things than one large one. It's also easier to find the contents in a smaller bag (here, I'm slightly anal - one of my bags has warm weather clothes and white underwear, the other jeans, jumpers and dark underwear - there is no real reason for this, but it works for me lol). Toiletries and towels (we use the micrfibre ones) are in another small holdall.

Walking stuff (maps, waterproofs, water bottles etc) stay in the rucksacks we take out walking.

Food is in a cool bag or shopping bag.

Most of this stuff lives in the containers it's packed in, so we can get loaded up pretty quickly.

I met a really nice family recently while camping, the mum's father had made them a gift as a purpose built camping kitchen - it was really great home-made piece of storage.  At first glance it seemed to be just a wooden box, but it had several shelves built into it and a hinged top. Its size seemed to be approx 20" wide, 18" deep and perhaps 18" high - so very compact for what it contained.  The wood panels on the side had two gaps in it so that you could insert your fingers into it for lifting purposes.  They simply unloaded their kitchen from their car into their tent porch - no faff with setting anything up as it was already to go!

He designed it so that the top part of the box was on hinges - you could lift the top of the "wooden box" bit up and on a shelf under the top lid was the Camping-gas cooker with a hole at the back where the hose came through.  Under that shelf, he had a another shelf which had a drawer for cutlery/utensils, under that shelf was a shelf for dishes, under that shelf was a shelf for pots/pans (this was the bottom shelf of the wood unit)..

This was a totally simple design, but incredibly useful.  The family had this unit permanently packed-up at their home, so they simply put it into the car for trips and knew that ALL their cooking/eating needs were contained in it, and it was very compact.

I thought it was ingenious, I might copy the idea once I come up for air!
