I had this problem too, I find myself often camped on awning spaces (with the car parked on the hard standing where the caravan usually goes) and a 5m cable would be enough for me. I hate trying to coax a big heavy 25m cable, which is not very flexible, into the supplied bag. It only goes in one way, by zig zagging it in. It takes a good 10 minutes of my packing up time to get it back in the bag, at the end when I would rather be in the car driving. I would like to split it into a 15m section and a 5m section with their own sockets and plugs.

Skeenan, I agree the other thing it will be easier to fit two pieces into the locker of my TT rather than one big one.

Mucker, I'll probably do the same, that way no need to worry about any waterproof cover.

GO stocks the waterproof boxes:

EHU Plug and Socket Protector

I have not bought one yet, as I would place the joint high up on a hedge/railing/etc. so that it was not sitting on the ground or puddle.

The joint would be likley to be in the middle and nowhere near an handy hedge/railing/etc. Ok in theory, but both times I had to borrow an extension cable, the join was on the floor over the grass, handy hedge nowhere in sight!

As I had no waterproof box, I cut two slots into an empty ice cream carton so that the wires could exit at each side, then placed it over the top and put a couple of tent pegs either side to hold it down.

The warden said the waterproof boxes were a good idea, but not actually essential. He liked my idea with the carton, but it wasn't for the rain I put it there, but all the little kids who were messing with the extension lead, also it made the join more visible so that ppl wouldn't trip over it.

Was out Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday in 3 different locations. 1 and 3 we needed the full length, in fact 3 it was almost a stretch.

I have always been told the least amount of connections the better.

It's only a slight inconvenience, and as a bonus - keeps you fit for 5 minutes :-)

Well parts on order from Screwfix, and I have decided to to put the joint near the plug end so that the joint is inside the tent, that way I just need to feed through the new socket and connect I to a short lead on the plug side. The other advantage of this for me is that'll it be easier to fit it into the locker on my trailer tent.

Thanks for everyone's advice.
