From experience, I know my trusted Campingaz TE 28L thermo-electric cool box will not be able to keep the content below 8 deg C if the maximum day time temperature hits 26+ deg C, as it can only chill 18 deg C below ambient.

Hence, for my forthcoming trip to Birchwood Tourist Park in Dorset this Thursday 11 Jul, I have made enquiries with the camp site to find out if they offer ice block re-freeze service, and they do at 25p a block.

I shall use ice block to provide additional cooling inside the cool box should the temperature rises above 25 deg C.

I can't get a compressor cooler yet (I have my eyes on the Mobicool B40, and dream of the new Waeco CoolFreeze CFX 40), due to budget as well as space constraints (the B40 is a lot bigger than my TE 28L).

May be next year for the Mobicool B40.

DK

Hi DK.
The Waeco CoolFreeze CF40 is about as good as it gets, packs smaller than the B40 as it is just 37lt ample capacity for most folk I would think.

Seen the Waeco CF40 on EBay new at £500 and even at that bargain price is a lot of wonga for a fridge.

The Mobicool B40 for me was a compromise to far so I bought the C40 at £139 from Obelink.

The C40 is huge, but gets put in the Trailer and used as a storage box for the 1000 mile journey to the main campsite in France.

Whilst my icle Waeco CoolFreeze CF25 (23lt) keeps everything chilled for along the journey and days out.

Although I have spent £290 in total on camping refrigeration, I have a totally flexible system albeit in 2 parts solution giving 63lt capacity overall, and still at around half the cost of a Waeco CF40, so I am pleased with the end result.

We're hiring from the site in South of France this year - last year we gave up with our electric 'beer fridge' at the same site - the ones with the glass front door, we've taken it every year for 10 years and thought it was 'done' - works fine again once we were home.  It was as useless as chocolate in that heat and did nothing to keep my wine cold!!!

Well my Mobicool Hybrid B40 has arrived today by courier its huge!! I have plugged it in to try it in freezer mode and its so quiet you can hardly hear it. It will hold loads of stuff and just the job. I don't think Im gonna miss my tall fridge/freezer now iv got more room than I had in the van freezer its ideal.

A week to go and we will be on our way to France Yehhh!!
