Have been experimenting with my new Cobb. I hope that heat beads will make a big difference compared to regular compressed charcoal.

I found that the heat beads definitely make a difference, they will burn for a good 3 hours or more, we bought ours from Tesco's in Wrexham. At the end of last season after they had took them off the shelves the wife asked if they still had any. The assistant came back with 3 bags & said she could have them for £1 each I think the normal price is £3.99. We have now enough to last us a couple of years.
I have seen them also stocked in Homebase, I would guess they should be back on the shelves for easter.

Go Outdoors in Coventry has the heat beads for £3.60-ish. Of course, I only discovered this after paying £4.79 for mine!

artic, didn't use foil for the roast chicken. Have not tried the fillet & bacon recipe yet but I don't think I'll be using foil.

Will look for beads this weekend.
