We just use a standard electric pump on suck. Works a treat. We have an adaptor for the CSR if we're on non electric, just means blowing stuff up, deflating bags next to the car. We also have a pump that runs on batteries for emergency.

I have bought expensive fancy VAC bags, and these were useless and broke straight away. The standard ones from Argos, Wilkinson's, etc work just fine.

We spend half our trips not speaking to each other after rowing about the packing and unpacking

Currently on the lookout for a decent sized trailer for 2014 season

We have a Touran and our first trip resulted in the boot being packed to the roof and we had a roof bag for all the large soft stuff. We could have folded the seats down but I wasn't sure where the boys would go. As such I quickly persuaded husband that we needed to get a trailer. Haven't used it yet but I can see the benefits already given the amount of camping gear I have purchased since buying the trailer!

Practise and practise!

We have a croyde 6 too and we have managed to get it all in a Peugeot 206 but we have more stuff now and have a citroen c4.

We have seats folded down, tent and poles in middle of car, footwells have sleeping bag and mattresses in them, electric cool box on folded down seat with tent. Tables in bottom of boot, carpet and footprint laid flat on top of them, then everything squashed and stacked into all available nooks and crannies.

Funny though, as much as we have been, hubby cannot get it all in the car, so the puzzle is down to me! Every time we get new equipment we have another practise run.

The funniest time was when we had to take our convertible, we had to fold roof down to pile it all in then put roof up and fil boot, it was ok until it rained when packing up

We couldn't fix a roof rack onto our car so we opted for a Bak Rak, it locks onto the towball, did the job well. Am actually about to advertise it for sale, if anyone is interested in one.

Or a caravan.
Only thing in my boot when we go away is the dog

+1 (except the downgrading to a caravan bit!)

We have 6 people in our car so it contains absolutely no luggage except sweets and drinks for the journey. Never really liked the idea of the car packed to the roof incase of an accident and flying objects.

Trailer all the way for us, couldn't manage without!

Yes vote here for the vac bags for duvets and pillows.
We put all light bulky stuff in the roof box(it's a big one) such as bedding, clothes, SIMS camping loo ( no liquid and wrapped well in black bin bags but it's pretty clean as only a night time pee pot!). Roof box goes on dining room table while I practise pack and take photos. Then when it's on the car OH can load it according to the plan as I can't reach !!!
Packing the boot is down to me... OH doesn't have the patience for it. When we first started to camp he was convinced we wouldn't get everything in below the seat height, but after some practise on my own , it all went in and he could still use the rear view mirror. Everything has its place and not an inch of space is wasted.
As other have said, practise packing, it's the only way
Sarah
