Thank you so much for this! We don't have a Go Outdoors in N.Ireland so I'm relying on info from their website. Have also emailed them this morning, as about heights and if stools were appropriate height for the table - haven't heard back from them yet.

That was my concern - that we wouldn't be able to reach the table - perhaps I'll need to rethink!

We have one of these sets and I must say I am very impressed with it. It's very compact when stored and all of the folding parts have locking hooks to secure them in the open position so the whole things feels really sturdy and doesn't wobble and bend like some others...

I definitely think your better bet would be table with benches as highlighted by Kevie192. Much cheaper than the Hi Gear picnic set. The only difference is that the Hi Gear does seat 6 as it has two stools as well as the two benches.

We use a roll up aluminium table , really light easy to assemble & store and very stable-- with an acrylic coated tablecloth its very practical for eating on and preparing food.
Only problem I found our old folding chairs were too low so we ended up using our laps anyway.....doh !!!
Any ideas for suitable chairs. Our table was from Halfords by the way.

Ok - so I still haven't got a table!! We are being persuaded by the folding table and benches idea.

Anyone have any experience of the Halfords Urban Escape folding table and bench set? It's a good price, and more importantly - we can actually get it without large postage fees!

Had a look at the Hi Gear Elite picnic table set as they have an extra 10% off at the moment - but then realised they don't do home delivery on that one. No use for us as they don't have any stores in N. Ireland! Also took a look at Camelot Columbus link a couple of people recommended above, but anywhere that sells it seems to charge lots more for delivery that isn't UK mainland...

Thanks!

The Halfords table looks a bit smaller than the Hi Gear one so I guess it depends on how many people need to sit around it. However the price is much better. There is someone selling a Hi Gear set on Ebay. It may be worth asking what the postage would be for you? Also, have you looked at Amazon?

We've had a slatted top one for about 9 years and it's great for the 2 of us.

If they are too high for the folding chairs you had easily saw the legs down.

I've tried a couple of slatted metal top tables but an always disappointed at how unstable they are. They are lightweight however.

So I now have one or two different pieces of simple rectangular plywood cut to size, and use Ikea adjustable length legs to support these.

This way I have a two seat or four configuration; can adjust the legs so that the table is really level and the whole thing packs very easily in the car. With the legs being adjustable, I can get the height of the table to suit my Kampa Bistro chairs, better than most shop bought tables, which I feel are always too high for comfort.

Total cost was about £10 for the legs a couple of years ago. I already had the ply or you can usually find offcuts at your local tip, or even a friendly building site.

OK I know not everyone's in to DIY, but for me it makes the whole camping eating experience more enjoyable when I have something tailored specifically for our needs .

Hope this gives an alternative , even if it doesn't help you directly !
