I use a chimney starter and use the Weber method, put the briquettes in the chimney starter then put two or three small firelighters under the chimney starter, light them through the holes in the bottom of the starter and that's it, works every time.

I use a chimney starter and just use scrunched up newspaper and not had a problem. Probably cursed it now
Don't like instant lighting charcoal because if you want to add it while you are cooking you get food tasting of whatever they coat it with to make it light.
If initial attempts at getting things started fail, don't forget you can use an airbed pump to direct a steady gentle stream of air at the base to bring the temp up again.

Or something I have done in the past just stick the chimney on the suitcase stove for a few minutes, that gets it going very quickly.
