Everything gets cooked on a Cadac when we're away! We sometimes use the oven to keep stuff warm while other bits cooking, but as pepe63 says, camping cooking isn't the same as home cooking!

Sausages and burgers one night, chicken and salad the next, steak and new potatoes, BBQ fish and salad.

Sounds a great plan, but without the use of a decent size freezer, how do you keep a weeks worth of meat/fish? Last year we ended up going to Tesco pretty much every day (Admittedly that was as much for beer than anything else).

We tend to visit the local butcher, usually every 2nd day. When we are in Cornwall we find the nearest the fishmonger. We do end up visiting a shop most days though, for a paper, bread Etc. So can pick up bits there.

Intrigued how 7 people travelled with the caravan - either you have a people carrier (time to downsize, maybe?), as there are only seatbelts for 5 in a car, or you came in a convoy (so next time, choose a site that only allows one vehicle).

Two-pot cooking (we have 2 rings) works for us when we have visitors: some variety of stew / mince-y thing in one pot, and potatoes or pasta or boil-in-the-bag rice in the other. Some sites do food to take away - at Bunchrew, near Inverness, there's a small hut where we ordered up chips & we cooked our steak in the MH to fit with when they'd be ready. At Drum Mhor outside Edinburgh, there are pizzas on site at high season. Many family sites have a fish n chip van at least one night a week. We have a supermarket cool bag with us, which keeps things hot while we walk back (excellent fish & chips at Kirkcudbright, but a short walk away).

2024 = 20 sites / 41 nights. 2023 = 9/23. 2022 = 13/35. 2021 = 11/29. 2020 = 4/20. 2019 = 13/35. 2018 = 20/33. 2017 = 10/22. 2016 = 19/33. 2015 = 15 sites / 27 nights. Didn't count 1976 to 2014.

Last year we had a Kia Sedona (7 Seats) until the engine blew up. So we've 'downsized' as you say to a Merc ML - alas with only 5 seats there's no room for the oldest ;)

I take our steamer and slow cooker. We have a 2 ring burner and a mini oven. Using that lot I did Sunday lunch for 14. Admittedly I did cook the chicken on the Friday night before we left.

We have a family of 6 and usually my parents tagged along in their own caravan.

I cooked the same food in the caravan as I did at home. Had a decent 4 ring hob and oven. Also used my remoska.

When cooking, I used to put the side bunk up, it was a pulman bunk that went up over the side dinette. Gave me loads of room for chopping, dishing up etc. Mum and dad never cooked in their van, they just ate what I cooked So really I catered for 4 adults, 3 very large teenage lads and a vegetarian daughter. Never had a problem at all.

Happy hols!

Now that is the best suggestion yet! Our caravan is layed out the same, as half the problem is lack of space preparing/dishing out... I think we'll try your idea next time we're out in the van, thanks.

Actually, some of our favourite holiday meals involve nice bread, a good runny Brie, good quality cooked meats, a few pickled onions and a bag of ready washed salad.

The novelty of your caravan will have hopefully worn off by now and you may not have the numbers you experienced last year.

Barbecues are a great way as others have said. Otherwise send em' all off to the takeaway.
