Yep james, I did look at the Outwell 300LX type from various brands, every man and his dog seemed to be doing that model at the time, even Decathlon had there own version advertised as 400 lumen!

The Outwell 400LX and the same model from other brands, was a good deal size larger than the 300LX types, not just because it held more "D" Cell batteries but the defuser/lens is also bigger.

I notice now that Outwell have dropped the 3/4 Cree LED models, and all seem to be using Single LED's I guess it's just technology moving on as it does.

Hi,
We are new to family camping and we dont use ehu.
we have tried the ufo style led lights, which are bright, but we found them to ge a bit much on the eyes and they tended to sway when hung. finally settled on the battery operated orb bulb lights, sold in go outdoors/argos, we have 5 of them hung with their own caribeners around our 6 man tent, they have 2 brightness settings and a flashing setting, take only 1 battery aswell.

Ive got one of the remote control lamps. Looking at upgrading to led bulb soon. Ive also got 4 of the little Aldi led camping lights. These are really good and light up my tent fantastically. They are adjustable too.

Campingaz lamp or a paraffin hurricane lamp for me. Something quite satisfying about a flickering hissing light when outdoors

We are pleasd with our Coleman Duo LED lantern.

It has 2 detachable light panels with 6 LED's each so the lad can have his own light in his 'room' or can be used for trips to dark abo blocks.

Main lamp is 216 lumens. Panels are 92. I only work on Candle Power but can say it's bright enough.

Forget the optional rechargeable battery pack for these - they are crap, old tech batteries that will die if not used regularly. Better to get rechargeable LR20's (D equiv) for the main body. The panels come with AAA rechargeables which charge off the main unit.   Our's is good for about 10 days in summer. We take a battery charger for car/ehu.

For non EHU or winter we use a 300cp Tilley or a Petromax 500cp paraffin pressure lantern

I was concerned about the d cells but they last a long time, we are on the same set of batteries for two seasons we have the maplin and ring version.

If you can wait this will go on sale at £9.99 with amazon with black friday, prime days etc.

Ours is still going strong on its first trio of D cell batteries, after a total of 10 nights of camping so far, where it has been used every evening for varying lengths of time.

A dog shower? I've heard it all now!

If Lola gets beyond the bounds of acceptability in the canine hygiene department, we use a one-metre length of hosepipe with a universal adaptor that seems to fit on any standpipe tap. She doesn't like it much, but she doesn't get a choice!

We use car chargers for the phones, too, but we use them in the car, from the cig lighter.

I have just bought 2 of the GRDE 400 lumen 32 led Solar Motion Lights reviewed here http://www.fredshed.co.uk/solargardenlights.htm

They are frankly awesome, I left them in my back porch awaiting installation and even through glass in dull weather they have recharged and come on at dusk every evening. They have more than one option for light setting and I would certainly take these away camping! They take solar lighting to a new level!
