We use a single continental quilt (just fits on the top of the mattress but doesn't hang over the side and take up valuable room). This makes it really comfy cosy and I do recommend it. We had a weekend away last year (when it was quite warm) without the quilt and didn't sleep half as snug as normal.

Doesn't a mat ontop of the airbed not slide around all night?

Put a fitted sheet over that, or an opened up sleeping bag

Hi

we always take  an extra quilt with us and hot water bottles which are great and I sleep in a hat, if you take extra quilt and its not cold you haven't lost anything but if you dont take one and are cold you'll wish you had.  there's nothing worse than being cold you carn't get warm again and the night seems to drag on and  on.

anyway hope you have a great weekend and are nice and warm.

If your worried about the cold a night, make sure you invest in a quality sleeping bag and good insulation between you and the ground.

Personally I use a McKinnly sleeping bag rated at -5deg comfort, and a base camp Thermorest mat and have not felt the cold at all and I camp all year round.

Snug or wot?

Dave

We put down two of those thin foam roll up type with the foil backing down first on the groundsheet then on top of the flock air bed we use an old grey blanket then the sleeping bags and cover with another blanket if cold. Never been cold yet.

hi

last year me my hubby and granson went camping ..... we had sleeping bags on air beds which were covered by a fleece and a  sheet . We were all snug BUT my husband and grandson both had wet patches on the airbed in the morning ( now i don't think it was an "accident " on eithers part

I came to the conclusion that their sleeping bags have a nylony in side where as mine is cotton . and the wet was condesation betwen the cold air bed and the warm bodies as both sleeping bags were dry . this didn't happen in the trailer tent with same equipment.

We always get a bit of damp on the airbed underneath the quilt we sleep on - pretty normal me-thinks. Dies up in the heat of the day anyway but we usually just pull the quilt back to let the mattress 'air' a but.
