We have Vango xl camp beds for ourselves and an old sim from lidl on top. Shortly after we bought the beds we noticed halfords had reduced their camp beds to €15 and got 2 for the kids with the halfords 3cm sim for €18. Their very good and great value at €33 for each set up. We were disgusted we'd paid €70 each for the vango beds and while their a little bigger, they dont seem any better.
Have a look, could be what your looking for at a great price!

Just had a look on halfords UK site and for some reason its more expensive than the Irish one. Its usually the other way round.
The bed is £25 and the mat is £15 but they have an outwell 3cm mat for £3. The same mat in 5cm is £26.
Bed and 3cm sim for £28 is still good value tho.

Decathlon have great camp beds. Quechua. at £34.99. We got two last year for extra visitors they are light and seem very strong. They don't dip too much in the middle. When we used to tent camp we found the best solution for us was camp bed with an airbed on top.

We started on air beds, and after 2 de-flates, and feeling sea sick when the other one rolled over, we moved onto 10Cm (Outwell Dreamcatcher 10cm SIMs)and that was amazing, then (one recommendation here) teamed it up with a Outwell Posadas double, Waste of time, too wallowy, and indeed too sensitive to the other persons movements! the bed is currently for sale!
so a 10cm SIM each,and a good sleeping bag should be fabulous!

Thanks very much, that's a good price for those mats and they seem to get good reviews. I have ordered two.

I was looking for something to replace my eldest's (deflated) airbed as I am fed up with them getting punctures.
Also wanted one for my youngest as she was in a ready-bed last year and we kept finding her tipped onto her side with the mattress up in the air!! So this year we'll put her in a junior sleeping bag with SIM. I find with young children airbeds are not great as they fall off them, so a SIM seems the best choice. Also for the youngest we want a SIM thick enough that we one of us can move onto it if the youngest wakes in the night and ends up crawling in with us!

I do get the best bargains from this forum!



Right, now onto research double SIMs for us....

I vote for SIMS. We have 10cm Outwell ones and they are as comfy as a bed.

We started off years ago on a double airbed. Neither of us likes it much: Me because of the cold coming up (although you can prevent this by insulating with a duvet or something but it does add to the faff factor/takes up space in the car which is reserved for "essentials" such as fairy lights/extra wine). Hubby didn't like it because he felt he rolled in to the middle but ours was a super cheap one so maybe the more expensive brands with multiple chambers don't have that problem. They also have a bit of a sea-sick feel when you move about or is that just me?

The one thing I don't like about SIMs is hauling myself up in the morning and I've considered the double camp bed/SIM combo but am put off by the support bar in the middle. Has anyone tried SIMs on top of an airbed?? Granted you lose the storage but do you gain a bigger sleeping area??

I am looking at SIMS for myself and hubby as have got fed up with the air bed - its too cold, they inevitably get a puncture, and I don't like the way I end up being flung in the air every time he moves! The only upside is that they are quite compact to pack, and some of the double SIMs seem massive even when deflated and we are short on space in the car.

From what I have read, some SIMS come in a double size, however other people get 2 single SIMS and attach them together somehow, is this correct?
