I have the XL it's a great frying pan, and takes up next to no room as the cooking utensils fit inside and takes up next to no space in the rusksack. unlike a frying pan.

Have you tried a 20cm frying pan with folding or detachable handle(s)?
Vango and/or Kampa has folding ones, and MSR has a detachable one in stainless steel.

I use my Ridge Monkey for all sorts of cooking in my campervan. It fits on the stove a lot better than the small frying pan I used to use and since I got it I've stopped using the frying pan and saucepans and have demoted them to the home kitchen.
It even does excellent toast unlike the holey thing I had before which always made the toast look as though it had measles.
Has freed up a lot of room in my van's kitchen cupboard.
Have been using it for a couple of years now and not noticed any problems with the detachable handles, I too suspect user error there.

We bought our Ridgemonkey XL at the beginning of our camping season, it is great for pre-cooked rice, potato rosties etc as long as you don't use it on the high setting, heated a cheese & ham pitta to perfection. Definitely recommend buying one.
