Fair play to “New To Tenting” but I would not even consider re-filling a CampinGaz cylinder, partly because many of the cylinders out there are quite old, and part of the process is that old cylinders that are at the end of there serviceable life are taken out of the system and recycled.
Cylinders that are still serviceable are refurbed and pressure tested, and new valves fitted as required.
To be fair if you don’t want to pay CampinGaz refill prices, then move to a different system, after many years camping since 1962 ! albeit only in southern France, and using 907 cylinders, I have now moved over to the Butagaz Le Cube system at €20 for a 6kg refill that’s better than half the price of CampinGaz.
I will agree the compact size of the 907 is perfect and I will miss that, as the locker on the front of my trailer was designed to take two of them.
The Le Cube is of course larger, but it’s not massive and popping two of them into my trailer will not be an issue.
For some the 907 is the only solution, and if that’s the case then you simply have to pay the price for refills, which I agree is extortionate and needs to be investigated, to my mind a refill for a 907 should be no more than £7 based on the cost of 13kg Butane refills which are about £30.
