Another vote for Safefill. Had ours for about 3 years and already paid for itself and no more giving gas back because you need to guarantee a full bottle for an upcoming trip.
That's something I never do because I always have two cylinders. One full and one in use. When the one in use runs out I swap them over then replace the empty one as soon as possible. I rarely go two days without a full cylinder. We don't use enough to make Safefill a viable proposition, as it would take us years to recoup the initial cost.
Your method of buying and using gas is 100% exactly how I do it Colin and the same thoughts entirely regarding 'Safefill' as well. It would also take me years to recoup the cost that's why I didn't consider it as an option as the cylinders are not only expensive to buy but seem just as difficult to obtain very much the same as 'Calorlite' at the moment.
Another one who would never recoup cost of a Safefill cylinder (or any other refillable cylinder brand) even if I could carry on caravaning many more decades (seems unlikely at my current age!)!
Cheapest Safefill is £164 (5Kg), you can't even get them direct from Safefill at moment due to supply shortage, you are directed to stockists, and who knows how many of them have got stock!
As others, I've got two Calor cylinders, so can run one to empty before swapping over. It may not be the cheapest gas per Kg, but it's the most economic system for a low volume gas user like me, probably only used 4Kg of gas in past 3 years. It only gets used for cooker (and I use the electric hob as much as possible), and periodic testing of fridge and heating to ensure I have a functional backup to EHU should that fail.
It seems that regardless of gas/cylinder brand, there is a national shortage as recent surge in new campers has overwhelmed the industry.
