I've tried a highlander and it was cheap and horrible. I have also tried a Thermarest and it was fine (like a very hard orthopedic mattress), but expensive.

You seem to get what you pay for with SIMs.

Well, I bought 3 for the family and will be trying them out in Cornwall next week - they seem great at home (tried on the kitchen floor)
Will report back, but so far looking and feeling good!

Oh, one other thing - the people at Alpkit are really helpful - so a thumbs up there!

Thermarests are great. I've tried buyer cheaper but they don't roll up well and aren't as comfy. Thermarests also last years and years so are a good investment.

Thats the one i want when we go camping from the car etc, its a bit heavy for backpacking. But hey what a piece of pukka camping kit.. I want one! That is a really good price too. You surfed well

We all know you feel much better after a good nights sleep, so its worth it..

We bought an intex double bed with the electronic pump etc.

It is suberb. My daughter and her freind both mature girls slept on it and said it was the best.

We got it in the Index sale for £50. It goes up and down in 6 mins. We actually put it back in the box.

i got the chance to check out the Thermarest Dreamtime at the recent outdoor show in Germany and it is indeed a comfy beast of mat. The fleecy covering is luxurious and must be a close as you get to taking your own bed on holiday. The £120 price tag would put it out of my league, especially if i had a family to kit out - i mean if one person had one the whole family would definately want one as well.

When I am car camping I tend to throw a rug over the camping mats. It covers the entire tent floor and gives the whole tent a warm and cosy feeling, especially if like me you tend to roll of the mat

One other thing I have noticed with these 7cm plus thick mats is that it is best not to inflate them to the max. This was the mat moulds better to your body shape. With mine it is possible to spend a very comfortable night with the valve completely open.

Big difference in cost but just how good is the cheaper one? I would like to know if the cheap one is just 80% as good then i would buy it, because of the low cost. If not then its you get what you pay for again i guess... Please add to the thread if you know, cheers. Delta9.

I've never heard of the Fat Airic but the review looks good. I took the plunge and bought the Dreamtime, only tried it out at home as yet but it is really comfortable - really pleased with it.

I have a couple of Fat Airics I brought after reading the review on the outdoors magic site.

Outdoors Magic Review

They are extremely comfortable and the service was tremendous. They are arrived the day after I placed the order and postage was free. I also brought a wee airic for my daughter and she loves the idea she has got the same mats as mummy and daddy!!

They also seem to be working on a new family camping tent as well and I'd been keen to see how this develops.

I tested out the Thermarest Luxury and the Dreamtime (in the shop of course). I thought the Dreamtime was very luxurious but I was surprised how big it was once rolled up. I couldn't really say that the Luxury was any less comfortable, maybe less cosy, so I went for the Luxury. I have had some very good nights on it so far and have just bought another one for my huband today!

I met the guys at Head for the Hills earlier this year. I came across your site yesterday whilst looking for information on a campsite in Anglesey. It told me everything I needed to know except whether they excepted dogs or not. I now know they do and can add a review their page.

I can understand everyones love for airbeds, but man they are annoying when someone arrives late and decides to blow it up using a car pump

The thing I like my airbeds for is their ability to lay flat on the car boot and have everything piled up on top. Can you transport the Thermarest types inflated and folded in two perhaps, as I do with my aerobics mat?

Not sure why you'd want to have it inflated in the boot. However, you could store it flat or folded with the air out and the valve done up. They're only a few millimetres thick when deflated.

Well, we tested the Airics on a weeks camping in (a very wet & windy) Cornwall. Verdict - brilliant! The best slepp whilst camping we've ever had. So, for £25 as far as we are concerned you can't go wrong.
Oh, and just for clarification, we are not part of the Airic comapny :-)
