Hi, I ended up getting the Toysrus  Technosonic £169 you mentioned.  Am very happy with it.  Last weekend I had 4 kids sitting round one screen (didn't need to set both up) watching a dvd in the tent. There were no sound level complains and I didn't need to have it on maximum.  I had mine plugged into the electric hookup.  Not used them in car yet.  On my car there's a seperate "cigar lighter" socket that still has power when engine is off, so won't stop film, you might find your socket is the same.

Also Toys R us are  doing a single 3.6" screen for £49 (and comes with rechargeable 2 hours battery and headphones). http://www.toysrus.co.uk/Product.aspx/TruHome/TruHomeEntertainment/TruHomeEntertainmentPortableDVDPlayers/772305

The nice thing about the Technosonic is its very slimline and comes with convenient case.  The dvd player can also be plugged into a tv to view dvds  - useful in the home if you lack space.  It is Region 2 but someone said there was a "hack" for it to make it multi region so you can play DVD's from USA.  When I find it I'll post it here.

We went down the two seperate dvd player route, and haven't regretted it!

No arguments in the car on which dvd to watch, or if one just wants to watch a dvd the other can listen to a cd if he/she wishes.

Yes one dvd can be listened to by two kids it can either have two headphone sockets or you can by a splitter to convert one socket into two.

One other advantage over fixed screen is they are far more portable and can be easily rigged up and watched in a tent.

And of course if one of the little darlings has an accident and puts one of the players out of action you still hopefully have the other to still use.

You can pick up a 7 inch screen at the moment at a starting point of 100 pounds, the way the market is going i can see that price point dropping 20 or 30 pounds by xmas

Don't pay over the odds for something with a more recongnisable brand name the cheaper versions are usually made in the same factory!

All in all a most essential piece of kit especially for the kids........

We bought two of the Toys R Us players (£99 each). We have a 5 year old boy and a 3 year old girl so as you can imagine their choice of film is very different  so now they can watch whatever they want. Also these DVd players are able to take a PS2 which is ESSENTIAL on rainy days or extra long journeys. The two screen player£169 does not have this capability. We have also bought an adaptor which enables us to plug both players and the PS2 into the cigarette lighter.

Hi All,

Well...I've gone and bought the Technosonic Twin 7" Screen In Car DVD player (DTS2004) from Toys R Us. Got it up and running, and I'm very impressed, even with the sound from the screen speakers. A set of good quality stereo headphones will finish it off nicely. Off to Currys tomorrow to purchase 3 sets of headphones for the kids.

Only one thing though, 1 of the screens is slightly paler (in terms of colour) than the other, anyone else had that ? Is it a feature of these LCD screens ? and yes I've tinkered with the screen settings and brightness to no avail.

Ah...Just found a region hack for the player, dunno if it works I haven't tried it yet ! But here is the link:

Have you thought about a screen to attatch to a ps2, we have the slimline ps2 which you can now get a 8" screen to fit and it plays dvds, cds and copies and comes with in car connection cables, the only reason i havent got one is i cant get one delivered by friday and we go to cornwall on sat.......(maybe after) if we dont spend too much!!!!!!!

The only disadvantage so far it doesnt run off battery.

Have a look at the feedback before you buy this all the way from Hong Kong. Bit of a trek to take it back!!
