I've got a musto that I've had for years, they make riding sailing jackets and they do nice designs too....or try and find a crag hopper outlet shop.

Er, for anyone still after a new waterproof jacket, I understand that the Milletts SALE started this week! Didn't make it there myself, only God knows I tried........

Being left only with my other kagoul with me favourite purple one still being a bit whiffy from that mackerel encounter, I'm reduced to now ONLY being able to wear my bright flourescent yellow one! Not exactly your blend into the background colour that one eh? lol

I rely on my old anti rip Gortex Camouflage jacket.......then forget that when it rains and the jacket lets the water run off .... wonder why I never take my waterproof trousers

Any thoughts on the below from millets .....

I have been using Regatta jackets for many years, usually paying around £30 at Makro or Trago Mills. OK, they do leak after 3 or 4 years, but that suits me, as I cant imagine having a 10 year old coat. I like a change now and then. Same goes for waterproof boots. I have two pairs from Lidl, £14.99 a pair, two years old and still dry. Superb.

We've got a couple that we bought from Lands End about five years ago. I think I paid about £30 each for them, and they are breathable as well.

They certainly do not owe a penny as we are still using them, and they keep us lovely and dry. We use them in winter with fleeces underneath, so they are warm as well.

Got a couple of Regattas' but have'nt found them as good.

I have walked many of the long distance footpaths in this country and wear Paramo clothing. It is not cheap but is unlike any other waterproofs. It has the best breatherbility rating than any other. It is soft and quiet (dosnt rustle) good for bird watching. It dries fast.It does need waterproofing, but not often and then easily in the washing machine. It came out top of the ratings in Which magazine recently.Check your walking/outdoor shop you will be pleasantly surprised how comfy their range is.       Tallman

OH and I used to do a lot of climbing/walking, we bought Berghause jackets almost twnty years ago and although they were very expensive even then, they are still in excellent condition and they do keep the weather out but still 'breathable'.

Only problem is I can't do mine up any more!!

I had a couple of Peter Storm Jackets and I wasn't that impressed. the second one started leaking and I'd had it under a year. Millets recommended a machine waterproofer. Just put the jacket plus the correct amount of waterproofer in the washing machine and it worked a treat. No problems since. Thats with the breathable jackets. The children's aren't breathable so I had to use a spray. That worked well too.  When washing waterproofs you must only use soap flakes. Anything else destroys the waterproofing.

Peter storm is perfectly fine, machine washable and all that.

Just hang it on the washing line to dry, once dry reproof it with spray from a can...

Had mine 3 or 4 years now, not once leaked...prob the best £50 spent in a long time, plus you don't look like a "doughnut" when you go to pub.......

Stumpy.....
