No, the 4.5kg butane bottle (blue) is the smallest.
The 3.9kg propane bottle (red) is the same size, but contains slightly less gas.

Go for butane unless you'll be using the gas in winter.

We're camping stove novices. We've just purchased the Campingaz Kitchen double gas hob. It is officially compatible with the Campingaz 904 and 907 cylinders but the manual also mentions other non-specific butane cylinders.

The other day we chanced on a large calor gas cyclinder being thrown away. Because I'd heard that new cyclinders cost £40 we got hold of it. Do you think that we'll be able to use Calor gas with the stove?

I have a 794 regulator 29 mbar Butane thingy.

Hi Flapper

I have a Camping Gaz chef, the type with 2 burners and the grill - had it years.

This year due to the OH forgetting the Calor Gas on last years holiday, we now own 2 x 7Kg cylinders I decided to take both away with us, one for the fridge and the other for the cooker, which meant a re-tubing and an extra regulator.

Even though you can buy the regulators and tubing from most camping shops I went straight to Calor gas who delivered next day

As someone else as posted it's easier to get Calor refilled in the UK than it is to get Camping Gaz

Calor gas instead of camping gaz 907.

Guys, I'm a camping virgin too. Due on our first campsite soon, and purchased all the basics (I think), including a Gelert dual stove / toaster.

I almost brought the campinggaz, regulator, hose and gas canister - totalling £74.00 !!! 2.7kg of gas !!! and my ol'd man suggested just using calor gas which is far cheaper. However, it then raised the question of what cylinder and regulator would be compatible.

Sooo - what regulator do I need with the 15kg calor gas cylinder. I don't want to BLOW the stove up. Anyone know a supplier in and around either the Braintree area, Essex or Tottenham/Edmonton (North LOndon).

Please help

If you're going to be using a 15kg cylinder, one of these, but wouldn't a smaller and lighter one, say 4.5kg, be more suitable (these use a different, screw-on regulator) especially if you're tent camping?

Whichever butane regulator you use will be designed to supply the gas at 28mb to avoid blowing the stove up!

We run our 25 year old Campingaz on a 4.5 kg Calor Butane bottle and have done for the last well as long as I can remember. Just buy a Calor butane regulator, cut off or remove the Campingaz regulator from the hose and replace with new Calor regulator and secure hose with a clip. Easy and less than half the price of Campingaz refils
