That wasn't from a lump hammer that was from smacking Lee around the head
For windbreak poles and for when the ground is really hard, and for some pegs where the end is not so smooth ( I have some I can't describe that are good pegs but not kind to rubber mallets), I'd recommend a substantial wooden mallet. A rubber mallet has too much bounce so you lose some of the energy you need to get the windbreak pole/peg into the ground, and the head tends to get mauled.
I've also just bought a metal handled substantial rubber mallet (head of my old one getting a bit mauled now) from Poundland for £1.
The two together are an excellent combination. Oh, and I don't like the peg-puller as part of the mallet, better to have a separate one of those.
I also carry a claw hammer for putting rock pegs in and getting them back out.
Hanna, I was "converted" to SoH last summer at the Bridgnorth Folk Festival and have been buying their CDs ever since, got 4 now plus the DVD. Going to see them at the end of May, also hoping to go to Trowbridge Pump Festival. Just got to persuade daughter to stay at home that weekend to look after the dogs as they are not allowed.
