Would that work with EHU tho Jen? I am not too technically minded. We got an electric cool box this year and thought that worked the same as a fridge, does it not?

Not expert beezers but we tried the electric coolbox when we started out and it just wasn't worth the hassle, for the job it done (ok but not great) and it didn't plug in to ehu so only off car when running

I think the link jen sent is the dogs

Waiting for hubby to get back from night out in Edinburgh to persuade and argue over space!

We got the adaptor thingy so our coolbox runs off EHU as our lighter in car don`t work so we can`t plug it in there. What do you mean it wasn`t worth the hassle? What problems did you have?

I think most electric coolbox's are thermoelectric....which means they can only cool the items 20 degrees below ambient temps this is not acceptable health and safety wise for storing lets say sausages until there due date....while a proper fridge which uses a compresser for cooling like the one rabb has can store any food or such that says once opened must be stored in fridge....

We dont have 1 like his..but we do have a husky beer fridge which works of our EHU it is certified for food also and is a reasonable size... also when we take it we fill it with camping stuff so that it is not wasting to much space on the way.....

Coolbox is fine if your buying stuff and eating it same or next day...but anything over that and there will be a fair bit of bacteria growing in that product that you cant see.... they are only meant for cooling....not as a substitute for storing perishable food......

Hi, briandtracy has explained it spot on...if you have room and weight capacity go for a table top fridge, I would say coolboxes are sound for the drinks, But when it comes to food they are not really capable. A coolbox plugged into EHU will not work any better than if on 12v

So in a nutshell I shouldn`t store perishables in it like bacon, sausages etc for longer than a day?

What if I have frozen stuff in there that I am wanting to defrost? Would that keep the temperature lower than the 20 below ambient?

We usually freeze a 2 lt  carton of milk before we go away and that with the cool blocks gives a very low temp you can keep food a day or so longer.

It should keep temps a little lower beezers...the only difference is you know when things are not suitable to eat from a certified fridge as you can check sell by date....this you cant do with a cooler...the food your going to eat could be ok or it might not be....the only way you would know is if you had the runs the following day lol.
