Good advice MT, will think about microfibres for the beach and my hair. The Boy has a bit of excema, would a microfibre towel be a problem for that or is the 'patting dry' technique actually better than rubbing with a fluffy towel ? Actually it doesn't matter - he won't use anything except his Buzz Lightyear hooded one anyway !

Hi Alison, I use a microfibre turban for my hair, and my daughters, they are excellent, really make our dry quicker.

If you invest in the good towels like the lifeventure ones then they are great. They also have an anti bacterial coating to stop them smelling if not washed. The QVC ones will allways dissapoint in comparrison. They do dry in a quarter of the time of a conventional cotton towel.

I have to agree with the previous reply about life venture ones-they are excellent. I bought a large one in millets for £20 thought it was great so went to Cotswold and got another the same size for £15! I find I can dry my 2 girls and myself with one very effeciently and it always dries really fast. I agree it does not feel like a normal towel but it is just to dry yourself fast when you're not at home. I think they feel fine. Would not swop mine now!

I got one of those superplush microfibre ones last year on ebay mainly for my youngest because when ever we are on a site with a swimming pool he goes in about two or three times a day.Its virtualy impossible to get a regular towel to dry quick enough and in the past he has got through a fair few. This way he has one nice thick fluffy plush one that weighs very little and dries really quick. It looks and feels soft just like a regular towel and its a nice boyish navy blue colour, always try to avoid light colours for holiday use.

Also nothing sticks to it,with the other ones we have had in the past if they get dropped on grass every blade of loose grass gets caught up in them and you have to sit and pick them out one at a time.A real bind.

I've got a set of the QVC ones and I think they are ok. I got them for camping and also for OH to use at the Gym. I asked him how he got on with them and he hated it!!! I realised he likes a manly rub down after his shower and tried to pass on the finer, and slightly more feminine technique, of patting and I think he is getting on with them a bit more!! They are very soft but they catch on those inevitable dry tags on the ends of your fingers!

Are these micro towels affected much by suntan lotion - ie. if they're used on the beach / pool then they'll be some left on your body ?

My guess would be that the absorbency may be affected by the greasiness of lotions. We have the Life Venture ones, which do feel like shammy/Chamois leather and work best by blotting/patting rather than rubbing. They are superb, but I always take some cheap old towels for beach and pool cos they won't get damaged by sand, chlorine, salt water etc in the way that these rather costly compact ones may!
