Also as a thought in B&Q etc you see solar powered shed lights.

A solar panel some cable and a small oblong light, well as anyone bought one of these for the shed and triend it in the Tent!

Anyone know what they are like brightness wise?

I have a solar powered security light i am thinking of trying but it need a full eight hours good daylight, cost me best part of £40 pounds couple of months ago for the house.it has a switch for being on full time or sensor.

Has anyone out there tried any of the garden Solar lights and found them a waste or worth with when camping ?

Thanks, Jacks, I will look at those too. You can't have too many lights/torches when camping can you :)

Yup I've tried the solar powered shed light - and brought it back for a refund.  It wasn't a B&Q one.  I bought it at Homebase.  The light was pathetic.

I've also just bought some of the Netto wind-up lanterns on Thursday and tried one at home that night.  I am NOT impressed.  A candle would give more light.  They'll be going back too.

Wind-up torches are a real winner - way brighter than the lanterns I just tried even though they only have 3 leds and the lantern has 12!

We have a solar powered parasol light with about 15 leds that we bought from Netto 2 years ago for £7 and use in our tent - it's not bad as long as you don't need to read by it.

milletts for various colours and qvc for grey.  Very useful, if you don't want to wind them up they can be charged from car cigarette lighter on your way.  They also have alarm and point for mobile phone if you've run out of power!
