We'll be starting making the insulating case over the next few weeks ready for the September trip. I've ditched the idea of polystyrene and bought some sticky back 10mm thick sheets. Hopefully this will keep condensation to a minimum, then to protect the insulation it will be cased in foil bubble wrap.
The camp site where we go is now charging for electric at 40c/KWH so it's even more important to be efficient. If the sun shines it will run on solar power.

The bottom is 25mm polystyrene.
The sides are flexible closed cell foam from my new solar panel packaging.
All protected by silver bubble wrap.
Had a rethink and gone with the flexible sticky back sheets stuck to the foil bubble wrap.
The box is at -10 and the thermometer underneath now reads 15 degrees C rather than 10 before. Also testing it last night the compressor was staying off for between 20 minutes and half an hour. Without the jacket it was 5 to 7 minutes.

Mixed success for anyone interested. I fitted a 150w solar panel and mppt controller to try and be self sufficient running the freezer. As you know there are many variables to consider when sizing up what panel you need. The biggest problem has been the high ambient temperature, which makes the compressor run almost continuously when set on -10c, and because of the high ambient temperature the compressor is taking the best part of an amp extra, then there's a bloody olive tree casting a morning shadow on the panel (just a tiny bit of shade and the panel output drops massively to 2.5amps from 8.4amps).
So the good news.. I've tilted the panel back 39° towards the south west(makes about 2amps more) and put the set point on the freezer up to -6c and so far so good, just about managing, but any cloudy days and the EHU will have to be used
