I'm blonde as well and was going to ask the same question, we have just got a large porch awning and wondered if we could just get a set of metal delta's for everything (ie outwell windbreak, awning and storm strap) instead of thin metal ones and plastic ons.Such a pain thinking what pegs do we use here and I know the deltas sit flat so won't trip up on them.

Unfortunately, the Delta peg is probably not deep enough for hard-standings. Has anybody ever tried using one on a hard-standing?

yes rob i have ,as you say there isnt enough in the ground i would have had to use rock type pegs, but they found me a pitch on soft ground. but i wouldn't have tryed to put the plastic deltas into hard standing.

I got 4 grey plastic for my main tri-lines and used them for the first time last weekend and tent was lovley and solid. A friend helped me take the tent down and struggled so much to budge these 4 pegs that he used his metal detecting spade to dig them out

That's a brilliant idea and one that I will follow up. I will use Papa Pip's template. Cheers, B.C.

Yes Papa had to take a few days off there to recoup my brain cells, back to full strength again now

Blimey, most people use their fingers or a peg puller. Do you think that the soil was shrinking around the anchor as it was drying out ? Shouldn't normally have that much of a problem.

We used our plastic deltas for the first time in the Dordogne and although the ground was soft we still managed to crack a couple of them at the top - probably hit them in the wrong place or had them at the wrong angle as are novices with the mallet and the pegs? there certainly was nothing hard in the ground as we first pegged everything out using the cheapy pegs that came with the tent then went round and replaced the ones which we felt the ground was too soft too hold.
I had to take flack off hubby as he thought they were a gimmick and was gloating they had cracked at first use - but he was silenced at the next site - we pitched on sand in a storm force wind and rain - the deltas held no problem. Then he wished we'd had MORE deltas - and we had 15!!! When we 'decamped' some of the deltas were buried, but they came out no problem.

Can't understand that Christine, if the ground was soft. I know of people who push them in with their hands or the heel of their shoe. But if they worked in the end that's OK.

Well was a bit hard getting them in the ground at the time, compacted pasture area on a farmers field, but I think he just lost patience when they didn't pull out as easy as normal pegs and took the easy route out
One Delta peg let us down in July this year. It was in very sandy, hilly soil and the weather was downright terrible, gale force wind and torrential rain. The way the tent was moving in the gusts scared me so I got dressed and went out to inspect at 4am.
I was just in the nick of time - the peg under most stress from the gales was almost totally out and it looked like it had ploughed a furrow in the ground. I'd had great faith in my Deltas so I could hardly believe my eyes. The rest of our Deltas all held solid but they weren't bearing the brunt of the wind.
I think the volume of rain might have made the sandy hilly ground shift a bit. I replaced the loose Delta with a 12" plastic power peg which never budged a millimetre for the rest of the fortnight. I have to say it has dented my confidence in Deltas a bit.
