I use the TomTom 520 Satnav and find it excellent, as members have said in the above replies it can be set to take the quickest route (main roads) right down to if you are walking to your destination, also with points of interest set (poi) you can set it tell you pretty much everything you need to know on your journey like garages, parking, speed cameras, doctors, vets in fact you can easily download all manor of poi's and even create you own!
I also use the bluetooth facility on this model to connect to my mobile so I have hands free while driving, another good point is that it has mapshare which means details of roads/ cameras etc get downloaded everytime you plug the unit into the computer, I use mine quite happily while towing the van, BUT with all satnavs you still need a certain element of common sense I mean just because the satnav tells you turn left over a cliff would you follow it? keep going and it will automatically re-route you anyway, that said keep a good old map with you as we all know technology is a wonderful thing..............when it's working !
