Lots of issues with TOMTOM as per there CS due to upgrades to satalites.

THIS DOES NOT AFFECT EVERY SAT NAV and possible wont affect any that are in regular use as they will possibly pick up the changes as they happend

the above i have now done all 4 of my go700's and has worked (im yet to go out of the area but certainly up to now has worked

What upgrades to satellites?? There has been none, Tomtom do not own or have any GPS satellites. They are owned and operated by the US.
The data protocol that the GPS satellites send out is a set standard and does not change for each manufacturer, its basically a serial data string sent out at a baud rate of 4800bps or 9600bps depending on the version of NMEA in use.
There was a rumour that the GPS satellites may fail in a couple of years....no chance, do you think the US government will allow their prize weapon fail??

Remember, the data string we get to use as consumers is not as accurate as what the forces have.

You might appreciate this comment from the standard TomTom handbook..

"GPS is operated and controlled under the sole responsibility of the Government of the United States of America, which is responsible for its availability and accuracy. Any changes in GPS availability and accuracy, or in environmental conditions, may impact the operation of your TomTom device. TomTom does not accept and liability for the availability and accuracy of GPS"

With the huge increase in satnav units, what we all forget is that these devices effecticely 'poach' their use from US owned satellites, originally implemented for use of the USAF. If the US shut off their systems at any time, TomToms, Garmins etc., will simply stop working and there's nowt anyone could do about it.

Because our towcar has a steep front window it cuts down the area of the sky that the ariel scans, so we bought a patch aeriel from maplins.  It is magnetic and sits on the roof so it can pick up a signal from the whole sky visible.

It makes a fantastic difference and I can really recommend them.
