HI folks,

Well I am new to all this and both me and my husband have a lot to learn.  So I have found all the help on this forum second to none and yes I would agree - some of the posts do tend to be a bit technical at times but whenever I have asked for a few more details and explained that it has all gone over my head - I have immediately had replies that explain things a little more clearly.  Nope I have no complaints and for me this forum has been an absolute treasure!

Thanks everyone you're all stars.

I recently asked for a site where I could download music and OMG I wasn't prepared for the debate that followed. I got my aswer in the 3rd post I think but it went on much further than this.

I sat back with a large G & T and had a good chuckle.

If people want to have a good debate let them. I kept out of it.

I always re-read my post before I hit the post reply button and think some people would benefit from doing this.

This is a very helpful site and I love it and won't let the minority spoil it for me.

People like to debate things on different levels. The original question might need quite a simple answer but it sets off a train of discussion that the more technically minded folk enjoy. I quite like this, but I do feel the original question deserves its answer first. After that I read on because, after all, I might learn something, but if it gets too complicated I usually give up.

There`s space for everyone to have their say I feel. No-one needs to read stuff if it bores them or doesn`t interest them. And debate is fine as long as it doesn`t get personal or inflammatory.

I cant see how any post\thread can get 'too technical'.

If posters want to engage in technical debate, then why not ? If others find these threads 'too technical' than stop reading them, its not compulsory.

The subject of EHUs is inevitably technical, there are no specific legal regulations governing their construction or use, so it is not surprising that one expert or knowledgeable person will have a different opinion to another.

Some questions or issues just do not have simple answers.

I tend to agree with Stuart here!

On the subject of electricty supply, if someone asked the question "is doing this safe?", the simplest answer would be yes or no.

Would anyone be happy with that? OK, there may be some, but I'd bet a pound to a penny that most people would want some more meat to the answer.

EG

No, because..........................., or No, unless............................, or Yes, provided that............................, and so on.

In fact, you could take it to the nth degree and answer a flat no every time to that question, because with electricity, nothing is safe, unless..........................!!!!!!

Is it safe to wire this..................No, Is it safe to have....................No, Is it safe to connect a ..................No

which is clearly ridiculous, and not very helpful. Strictly speaking though, it would be a simple and accurate answer!

As you suggest, the correct answer to the question "is using electric in a tent safe" has to be "no it is not", but its not the answer people really want ..........

> Beginers trying to find a solution not a formula <

Of course: no wars, not only as to technicalities, but also otherwise... That speaks for itself.
I don't mind technicalities. I think they are very useful. As to myself: I will remember only if I know the reason why a certain solution or a cetain behaviour is necessary or useful.
As long as things are explained as simple as possible to people who need so. And those people can ask to repeat in simple words if things are becoming too technical.

Moreover not all are beginners, and this site should be interesting for (more) experienced campers too. So don't just stick to the simple stuff, as members will disappear in the long run due to lack of challenge.
And isn't just that interaction between but also within all information and experience levels the interesting thing, if not one of the main purposes of this site?

Just re-read the whole of this thread, and I think those in favour have won......on a technicality.
