I have the same fear as you Nicola1972 about clothes all over the motorway, so I bought 2 straps that clip together, from Homebase I think it was, for £1 each, clip them together and wrap them round the roofbox and roof bars front to back (if you go side to side with them they flap like mad in the wind and annoy you while you drive). They were in these £1 boxes that you find dotted round the store. Well worth it in case the lock should burst open.
I guess I like making sure stuff is secure when I travel, part of being a truck driver I suppose.
we do that with bungies too!! Any roofbax could have a failure no matter what the make but at least it won't be me with my knickers on the M5 
So if i ever find knickers on my windscreen, we know youve forgot to put your bungees on or these clever people who dont use them have finally realised its time to buy some.
