Wow what an interesting tread. Never thought about taking our cat camping - we live in London and she is a house cat, it could be a holiday for her. Seriously though she goes to the cattery and we go camping. Not sure a cat in a tent is a great idea, or on a campsite. There is a management theory book which refers to the difficulty of hearding cats - cant be done.
Wen we moved house my cat wouldn't go outside without me to 'walk her' for 2 months. I was pregnant at the time and it may have been a protection thing too, since the moment I gave birth (in a hospital 20 miles away) apparently she just went right n out for a wander about!
However, just in case I wouldn't want to take her camping, as she would have to go everywhere with me. And it's hard to go to the supermarket with a cat attached to your foot :)
That is something I don't get about taking your pet on holiday. What do you do if you want to go explore locally in no pet areas ie we are going to Legoland. I can't just shut the dog/ cat in the car for 6 hours!
We took our cat away with us for many years. He slept all day either in a cupboard or bottom of the wardrobe then spent the evening and night time going in and out through a window we left open for him. He would come to visit us in other people's units. Once or twice we had problems finding him when it was time to leave but only if we had been in the same place for quite a while. When we changed units from a Dandy trailer tent to a caravan and then another caravan, then back to another Dandy he had no problems working out where he "lived".
