You don't NEED Deltas. Yes, they can make life easier, but people were camping without major trouble long before they were invented. To imply they are essential is just misleading.
I like to think of them like central heating in a house. It makes life easier, but you can spend a bit more time and make a fire and be plenty comfortable. In the same spirit you can spend a bit of time and double peg if you have to and be safe enough. The times you need to double peg are few and far between anyway!
Before anybody has a dig... I do own Deltas. I think I have 10 or 12 of them. And I do use them sometimes. I also own a few other goodies made by Rob which I rate very highly, especially the traditional stainless steel pegs which are beautiful
Just returned from Argyll and before we left I bought the Blue Diamond Hard Ground Pro Pegs from GO, £9.90 for 20. The gales we had one day were very frightening and took out a couple of tents, I used these pegs all round and they were excellent.
Whats wrong with the polypropylene pegs? Its' an engineering plastic. The only problem is that it degrades in strong sunlight. I can't see this being a problem in the UK. Plastic pegs are generally unsuitable for use in southern Europe in summer because of the hard ground anyway.

They are brittler than nylon.
It shouldn't be a problem, plenty of plastic pegs are polypropylene, provided they are driven in with a rubber mallet & used in stone free ground, ie in correct conditions they will be ok.
We'll see what mintster thinks of them if they are used this year.
