It is not uncommon to see 2 EHU cables put together if the hook up point is a longer way away from their unit. I have seen many wardens joining the campers & the camps EHU together. We have had to have the same ourselves twice. Once via the Camplet TT we had a couple of years ago. The first though was our VW camper van. One was on Hereford CCC site & the other was California Cliffs CCC site. We have 2 x 25 met. cables as we never let them go when being sold only the Camplet time as we already had 2 did not need the third one.

I can see the the neatness part and possibly the safety side so it never gets pulled apart by anyone or anything driving over it.

But what does it do in laymans terms if both the cables are the same except for colour as one is blue the other is orange. Because this is a post that has got be more baffled by its answers than anything I have read before. So it will and is teaching me nothing what so ever to add to my little black book I write all help inside  and carry with us camping.

We use only electric, a fridge,kettle standard one from home,Remoska, Microwave, & Halogen cooker. Plus fan heater 1000w & 2000w. We are very careful not to have any 2 of the big things on. So it is fridge-standard + one of the others+ lights possibly. Have not put in extra plugholes so we never make the mistake. So we only have 2 plug holes and the main one is on top where the kettle is. The other behind the t.cloth so not used unless using the table to cook on, making the higher one for the kettle left unplugged always.

All I can see from this is what is going through my brain. it seems to be if one cable is short the other long. the v changes. If both are joined together even if the same type of cable, over the length the v. changes. or is this completely wrong & senseless. Because that is what a layperson is getting and not understanding. Can we use 2 cables if necessary or not? If we can, we can also neaten for safety sake by the cover.

Over to you. My black book is waiting. Just make it PLAIN speaking to a NON eletrical person/persons

If you join the two 25m cables it means that your lights will be dimmer,your kettle will take longer to boil and your fan heater won't give out as much heat,it may also have an adverse effect on the efficiency of your fridge. It would be better to avoid anything over 35m and the cable should be 25mm.

Yes you can join two cables but as I said before try to keep the total length to below 35m

Both the plug and the socket of an EHU Cable is set into the caravan/FC and into the sites EHU box, at such an angle as to make these connections waterproof.

However if you join 2 EHU cables together, because they are lying on the ground, they are not waterproof. They are lying on their side, in a position that they are not meant to be used in and therefore you should have that joint inside some sort of waterproof box. It is neither for neatness nor to stop it getting pulled apart. It is purely to keep water out of the plug and socket of 2 joined EHU Cables while they are lying on the ground in wet weather.

For those concerned with posssible voltage drops(..what with kettles taking longer to boil!? ),then I suggest you use gas or insist on a pitch closer to the socket!...

..and for those who just "can't see the point"..well...then just don't buy one..!

I asked about Junction Boxes, but the topic strayed a bit to things that did not concern me.

I don't overload my EHU, but then again, I suppose some folks do, however I feel that such advice should have a topic of their own so that those that are interested could focus on these subjects alone.

My new junction box and my longer EHU cable are now stowed away and my short cable is powering my FC ready for the off on Wednesday.

Now all I need to find is my fur lined bikini.

Now I know they should be covered as the only way we had seen 2 x 25 met leads joined have been just left on the grass or going acros the sites road under a rubber tubing so that cars etc can driver over it.

I always connect the EHU and I unwind it all and do  not let the cable over lap each other, Just do it like a sssss with a couple of coloured rags tied on it if it goes across somebodies shortcut. As it had at West Runton. Someone got so close to our fc they trippe over the cable and slammed against my bedside whilst I was laying down having a rest pm.Frightened the willies out of me with the almighty thump he made on the side. Checked for damage, thankfully none on the fc but his toes hurt. Then he should not of been that close should he. Anyway I put markers on it to show it is there so nobody hurts themselves, as sometimes it has to go nearly a full 25mt away.

We have a small one that is only like the standard 3 pin house plug and connection to the fc. My brother in law froze his fridge down before he left home and kept it like  freezer all his hols. But we would like a 10 mt one as many times the long one is just far too long when it can be a behind the fc connection. I have actually had to unwind half way round the fc back n fro before now.So sense to have a shorter one.
