Well, this is easy for me to say, as it's very early days in my life as a tentist, but.....
I dread the day we need to plug in, as that may (may!!) mean we have to be tented next to Mr & Mrs Emmerstreetenders, or young Jack & Jenny "Boom Boom" 24hr partydude.
Like I say, early days yet, but for now at least, it is our intention to go as long as possible without EHU, look out for leccy-free/pitch-where-you-like sites/fields, and hope the car will keep 'phones, E-Cigs and possibly i-pad charged up.
Admittedly, I can at least fiddle my expenses enough to run to what amounts to a free supply of lamp batteries (to run alongside a couple of wind-up & solar ones). And I am fortunate enough to have been able to afford a top of the range 5h*t-hot sleeping bag apiece, and have just about enough car space for a skip-full of thermals, wooly hats and heat-holder socks..... and vodka of course, which helps!!
No, this may come to bite me in the backside, but for now, you can keep yer EHU pitches, and yer 'eaters, and yer boring upright water-gauge kettles that can't even whistle !
When yer fuse blows, just take a look over at us, and we'll raise our glasses to yer, and give you a wave....... that's us, behind the balaclava's..... flickering by candle-light!!
xxx
Mucker (Brrr!)
Totally agree and also have the luxury of getting bookings a lot easier as more pitches dont have ehu.Good sleeping bags take care of any cold issues at night.

I do use two leads one for van & one for awning just because we take a 12volt cool box with us and plug that in in the awning so please be careful with your "taking the mick"
thanks
If there are 3 hook up points on a bollard, these are to serve 3 pitches, not 2 for you 1 for the next and the other will have to do without ! Could you not run an extension lead from the caravan to the awning, perhaps through a window?
and just maybe the poster has a splitter so is only using 1 hookup point. I have one and have used it to share a point in the past with my daughter in her tent for her coolbox
If your using a splitter then your only using 1 EHU on the bollard. I think you would still be limited to your power usage though, eg 10amp hookup, using a splitter, you could only draw 5amp on each, or 2 amp on one, 8amp on the other before tripping the fuse!
From the sounds of it, the person above is using 2 EHU on the bollard, so they can have a higher amperage?!
Maybe campsites will have locks on the EHU in future and then you'll only have access to what you pay for! Maybe they'll invent some sort of computer controller metering so they can record how much each EHU is drawing and bill back to users accordingly?!
