I do agree that a tablet is more versatile and I use tablet, phone and Kobo for reading.
However, for reading purposes, a Kindle / Kobo has some enormous advantages:-
- battery life measured in weeks rather than hours
- e-ink screen can be read in bright sunlight unlike a tablet screen
- extended reading on a tablet screen can be quite tiring on the eyes
- you can still locate / download / convert 'epub' format books for use on both Kindle and Kobo
I second this
I read newspapers on a Nexxus 7 tablet but after a few it tires the eye. But on my Kobo I can read for hours. it`s like night and day.
The Kobo (or Kindle etc) is actually ink rather than electronic so much easier on the eyes
e pub is a format the kobo reads so no need for conversion
I still read newspapers and paper books and always swore I`d never have an e reader but my Kobo is one of the best things I`ve ever bought
Having devoured books for years and resisted a Kindle for ages I succumbed and got the basic one a couple of years ago. Last year I upgraded and got the Paperwhite. It is awesome! Touch screen is so much better than fiddling with up and down keys and the backlit screen is a pleasure to read - in the dark or in full sunlight. Just brilliant.
Husband never reads and even he has read some books on the Kindle. You can enlarge the font to whatever size suits you and the paperwhite is truly like reading a book, but better!
Books download in a couple of seconds and there are loads of free downloads available too.You can also take hundreds of books anywhere and when you shut the kindle it remembers your place for next time. Mine is also synced to my smartphone so I can read on either - if I am waiting in the docs or whatever I can have a quick read on the phone and when pick up my kindle next time it takes me straight to where I read to on my phone. Clever stuff!
I promise you won't look back!
