What Mucker said..
As for its about price. If that's the main concern then we all deserve what we get. Independent shops tend to be as good as any multiple when it comes to price because we have to but we tend to stock higher end products I suppose. We tend not to stock budget product's because then we are competing directly with the multiples, often we will stock a similar product to the multiple but it will be better with more features etc.
Anyway, support independent retailers if you can because when we are gone the chances of finding shop staff with the vast knowledge we have will be gone.
I agree with you, on all points. I think it's a real shame that we're losing independents to the multiples because we seem to have lost the passion, as well as the real knowledge-base of owners and staff.
Nowadays, I have no idea where my nearest independent camping shop might be and if I want to view canvas tents then opportunity is still more reduced. I personally think certain tent brands will become more and more rare, as they ultimately price themselves out of the market and limit accessibility.
I genuinely believe the reason people choose to buy Gelert from SD (or stuff from Halfords, or supermarkets) must be low price (usually showing unrealistic reductions). And yes, if you buy from uninformed sources who know nothing beyond the price tag, we possibly shouldn't complain. Then again, enthusiasts want info and maybe it's natural to expect all retailers will be at least as knowledgeable as the buyers. Time to recognise this ain't the case.
