Campers like stuff thats new or innovative. It doesnt have to work or be any good. As long as they - for a short time, have something their mates dont, and they can generally show off. They like labour-saving devices. Or things that are reduced in size and/or weight. Cooking gadgets are a big thing, as well.

If you could design, say, a bbq that weighs half a kilo, and runs on an LED bulb, you would retire on your wealth inside 12 months. Or a bag you can throw a wet awning in, that sucks in the size of a shoe box, and dries it while you are travelling home. Thats the sort of crazy junk campers like.

These are unlikely inventions (for now), but anything existing that can be improved on in the above ways is where you will have success. Our company has a reputation of bringing new ideas to market. If you do have the germ of a new product, do get back to me (seriously) and we would be happy to view and appraise its potential.

Much too sweeping a generalisation Mick. I for one am quite the opposite to your first paragraph, and I'm sure I'm not alone by a long way. I couldn't care less what other people have or haven't got, and I never show off to anyone. I am a very practical person. Anything I spend my money on has to work, and work well. I wouldn't have useless junk as a gift, whether my mates have got one or not. When I go away with my caravan, anything that doesn't have a useful and practical purpose gets left behind. Agree about a wet tent or awning though.

You're one of the few then Colin. You bring a gizmo out that takes the top off a beer bottle and pours it into a glass, say. Then sit back and watch the shekels roll your way. Honestly, some of the pointless stuff ive seen folk pull out - just to show their mates.
One fella brought out a hostess trolly (part of our loose group) in France, to show off. He filled it full of bottles and glasses, so i asked him to bring it across the grass nearer to where we were sitting. He got 3 yards before everything was on its side. It was put away half an hour later due to only working on dead smooth surfaces such as pool sides. Idiot! And hes only one of many ive come across.

With many music tastes & Dislikes, I hate listening to Rap and pop. So i like the use of headphones . unless you want to hear my choice of Classical music or heavy Rock or good old Punk rock at a higher volume..

I never camp with EHU.

I would like a very portable light solar charger for my phone, especially one that could be attached to my rucksack to be in the sun while I walk or sit on the beach.

The big camping innovation I am really hoping for is silent tent zips.

P. S did the survey: was the q about listening to music about camping or other times? I listen to music often in the car, sometimes at home and NEVER while camping.

We usually listen to music in the car and often at home, but when we are in the caravan we only ever have music on very low and never when the door or windows are open. If you stood 6 feet from our caravan it would have to be extremely quiet on the site and you would have to listen very carefully to hear our music. We make sure of that. We never bring a TV with use either, as we are glad to get away from it.

Colin

It does relate. My project is about enhancing the ambience for someone (listening to music through headphones) at a campsite
with no access to electricity.

We weren’t told to join UKCS I just thought it was a good way to find out what other campers think about ambience, camping and music.

Ambience....
Suggestions from me.

. Perhaps a garden area/herb bed/wild grass area between camping areas to give people more of a feeling of space. Obviously not between each pitch.
. More lights on paths to enterance/exit/wash block but make sure that they light the path not the sky (light pollution).
. Had a small campsite with large pitches around a 'roundabout' of grass. There young children played sensibly whilst watched by parents and a gentle game of football by the 'grown up boys' (Dads & mostly male adults). This was stopped at child bedtime. Families with young children were given pitches here and couples/others with older children else where on the site. This set a relaxed and friendly ambience.
