I sell a few Erde trailers

I know where a lot of people are coming from with instructions and accessories as I answer these Questions every day.

When Camping I always try and recomend an Erde 143 as a starting point if the budget allows even thought the 122 is the most popular trailer.

The reasons for this are.

it is usually a bit big and gives you some growing room as every one on this site knows and writes every trip you have more to take

it has 10 inch wheels this means that they are not spinning as fast and the tyres and bearings last a lot longer.

The bearings these are taper roller bearings in a cast steel hub and I sell 1 set of bearings for a 142/143 against 40 bearings for a 102/122 normally the bearings go at a really inconvenient time and you can loose the wheel when this happens also you can cause damage to the end of the axle this can cost £150. ( long way to replacing the trailer)

the sides on the 143 are deeper than the 102, 122 and 142 not much but it does help.

the panels on a 143 are also stronger this allows accessories sich as Extension sides, 60cm high covers and mesh sides to be fittes as well as the accessories that are available for the 122 and 142.

with the panels being stronger you do not need to take the trailer apart to add accessories to the trailer as you have to add strentheners to the trailer (hard tops and loadbars for hard tops.)

it is a big jump in cost from a 122 to a 142 trailer but it is less than £30 from a 142 to a 143.

for instructions I have a website ( erdetrailer.co.uk ) I have taken the time to take photos of us assembling trailers and accesories to help as the erde trailers are very poor.

I also sell franc and maypole trailers the erde is better designed to expand the trailer ideal for camping but erde do know how to charge for these parts.

Extending a trailer I have sold sets of panels that people have modified and bolted on top of the existing panels to extend the trailer and it looks right and acceseries do fit on top but again they are almost as expensive as the trailer was.

I would recomend not modifing the trailer that will devalue it and sell or part exchange your trailer whilst it is in good order as they do hold their money and go up to the 143 unless you are camping continental as the commercil trailers have 13 " wheels and an aframe drawbar that make the bearings and tyres last even longer and it tows better with weight and speed. I would put the commercial trailers up against the brendrups and other more expensive trailers for build quality and above for practicality as these have maby extras such as tie down eyes removable front panels, chains on the tailgate, double skinned front + rear panel, stronger hinges, stronger and adjustable tailgate catches and much more. but you do pay for them.

to look at the range of erde trailers goto towing and trailers the commercial trailers are 153 and above.
