We bought a lovely brightly coloured wind sock with a 6 meter pole. We were on quite a large campsite and the kids could find us easily by looking for the 'sock' til some b*****d stole it during the night.  Haven't bothered to replace it.

We bought it off sky blue leisure

Sounds great 

for a 5 x 3  go for a 7 / 8 metre pole.

I got the flag,  pole, groundstake and bungees,

Pushed the stake in the ground, ok,

extended the pole and fitted that over the stake, ok

could i work out how to attach the flag to  it?

 Err no, . we ended up tying the top of the flag on with fishing line and loosely looped the bungee on the bottom loop of the flag.
