Unfortunately, they cost me £2.71 + vat each (I do not charge the customer vat). By the time I weld, polish and pack them, it's not really worth it. I keep them going because they were the original (and best).

I don't think you have to actually try a piece of equipment personally to decide whether or not you like it. Campers, being the community they are, tend to speak to each other about products and see for themselves what their friends and aquaintances are using and how the products are used or how they work and how they survive in action. I think it would be a very stupid person with more money than sense who goes out and buys a product they have seen in use and don't like just to confirm they don't like them. I have friends who use deltas and I simply don't like them...personal choice (the pegs not the friends).

I don't think I have read anywhere that Deltas don't do the job they are supposed to do. I think we would soon hear about it if they continually failed, but other pegs do the job they are supposed to do as well so it's horses for courses.

Until very recently I always used the ordinary wire pegs that come with most tents with no problems (except for bending). I more recently tried the blue plastic pegs that come with Outwell tents and didn't like them either for various reasons...they still do a good job of holding the tent and guys down though.

I tried a few rock pegs out because I had to when I ended up with a particularly rocky pitch and liked them so much I bought the company...no I didn't that was a lie...I changed all my pegs to rock pegs and now use them permanently. They simply rock my boat, do what I want them to do and I have every confidence in them. I am sure deltas rock other people's boats although I have to say I rarely see them in use except by UKCS members so there must be a big market out there hungry for them

I'm sure product manufacturers do keep an eye on these forums. What they don't do is get involved in unseemly mud slinging while trying to 'protect' the reputation of their products. There is another thread running on here now about suggested 'rip off' prices from a tent supplier. If the supplier is aware of the thread they are doing the sensible thing & staying out of it.

The op asked a question & I answered it. There is indeed little point in having a peg that does not pull out if the tent itself fails. I have experienced tent failure in high winds on a couple of occasions but if I have used the correct peg for the ground I have never one pull out yet.

Mr Orr is reading only what he chooses to read from mine & other posts & he assumes I have no experience of his products(& no brain apparently). I have never disputed the ability of his pegs to stay in the ground, I am just questioning whether they are worth the extra cost when 'conventional' pegs in either plastic or steel depending on pitch surface will do an adequate job to the extent that they will remain in place while the tent breaks.

I'm quite sure in any extreme pull test the Delta would remain in the ground while a conventional peg would pull out at similar force. The correct way of doing this pull test tho, would be to attatch a guyline joined to a tent & pull the tent to discover if the tent broke away from the guyline before either peg pulled out.

It is unfortunate that tents in the 'reasonably priced' range as used by most UK campers come with the inadequate bent wire pegs & certainly any after market peg will be better than this.

If were not for Mr Orr's intervention, the op's question would have been answered & I doubt this thread would have progressed past the first page.

Summat to consider when 'Ukcs Delta peg thread alert' next flashes up on your screen eh Rob?

I am getting bored with this thread. It seems that some of us never let facts blind our prejudice and others don't know when to shut up even if winning.

Anyone fancy a game of snooker?

As Rob says, raw stainless is not cheap. However, like a certain hurricane lamp I am currently considering buying, you are very unlikely to need to repeat that purchase in your own lifetime!

Hi Rob we've just returned from a camp in Devon, and one camper in the next tent was asking how he could get hold of some Deltas without being on-line.

Have you a postal outlet?

(He was impressed with our stainless steel ones and their performance after a very windy night!)

Regards

Steve & Sheila

Thank you Rob, I am satisfied with the cost and effectiveness of your product, and long may you continue supplying them. It has with time increased my confidence when the wind does increase, Previously I had laid awake worrying if the tent would stay or not, especially when I use the Monty plus awning which is a big sail. I think for me this is where your pegs are more effective over other designs, with a big tent, if I use my Icarus which is a lot smaller you may not really notice much difference with some other products unless it very really windy.

Hi Steve and Sheila, I guess this would be fairly difficult unless you are in contact with that gentleman in which case you could pass on our details. Some people are on-line but don't like to use it for payment. He could telephone us though.

Floggitt, thank you. We're happy that you're happy with the product.

Used Delta pegs for the last 4 years, and just bought another set of 10 as I have now got a larger tent and canopy so need extra pegs.

Decided that this time I didn't want the 10% discount as you deserve to keep the cash.

Thanks.

Rob et al,

I am glad Rob is an active member on here, his views like everyone elses are valid regardless of whether you agree with them or not.

I keep a pack of 12 rock pegs in my tent bag on the off chance that the ground is too hard for the delta pegs that I prefer to use every time.  If my tent tent rips I will return it to the manufacturer. It is designed to be anchored to the ground and that is what I do to it, there is no wind speed rating on my tent therefore I expect it to survive. I lost a tent in the scottish highlands due to extreme weather, it was not the weathers fault, nor the tents, it was my lack of knowledge and p**s poor wire pegs as supplied by tent OEM, next time it will not be the pegs that let me down!
