cemh  here it is WHY I DO NOT LIKE THE MESH

Cleaning .. said mesh.. when duck fat has dripped down the flippin thing.. all them nooks and crannies... (A typical man design... shiny metal pah!)

in a wind.... cold wind wistles through said mesh so coals are not so insulated.. So in poor windy weather less chance consistant result...

DID I mention CLEANING... ....HOW LONG IT TOOK TOO CLEAR the duck fat....

Cook duck you will see the problem with the grease.. with a solid side one it would be easy enough to clean.

This time of year not problem with wind but I can see when it gets cold this is going to be a real disadvantage.  When I bought the thing I thought that the mesh was prob filled with a clear resin.. no idea some idiot would leave it as an open mesh.......Cross with myself for not checking.

No have not had a solid side one but it does nto take rocket science to see that stainless stell with holes (steel being a conductor of heat) is going to be less good at insulation than solid plastic with no holes (plastic being an insulator)

We usually take one with us since running out of gas at 11pm and couldn't have a bedtime cuppa    ............. not so much a problem nowaday tho, camping with Ukcs buddies 

Single burner, with 3/4 gas bottles ... would be fine I'm sure

       for about £10/£15      cheapest gas I have found is Wilkinsons at 99p per cartridge

They take up very little space and very handy 

Just considering getting a Cobb so thought I would read up on them here and find out what real campers think.

Eric what is the point you made about only using gas in France? Do other people use their Cobbs in France?

The single burners are good and you can boil your kettle on the cobb as well, just take the grill plate off and put your kettle onto the fire basket directly over the coals and it will boil your kettle!
