Thanks - but all Southern stores lol

Please can we have some up North and more in Scotland - Inverness perhaps ........... please :0))

Straiton by Edinburgh would be nice, right next to my local Ikea. I guarantee I'll visit often, get a card and buy lots.

Go Outdoors?

Well 'we' have one just a few miles up the road in Wolverhampton...The staff are always friendly and more to the point there are always a fair few of them available to assist with advice etc......

OK, they may not all have the survival knowledge of Sir Ranulph Fiennes, but hey, the average customer wants a gas stove and a fleece, not artic sledges and Everest mountain gear.

As for the discount card, I have one but more often than not I just give the people on the till my postcode.....IMHO it would be a better system to have a points type card where you get points from buying goods then you can use them against future purchases.

Go -Outdoors? yep I like them

I have just visited go outdoors in Wakefield its the nearest on to us about 45 mins away. Its the first time i have been and was really looking forward to a spending spree! Sadly I was really dssapointed with it, they didn't have the table and chairs I wanted and mostly stocked 'hi-gear' branded stuff, is it their own make I don't know but it looked a bit flimsy to me.   The worst part was the tent display half of them looked like they had been pitched up for years!  It looked like an abandoned campsite .    Maybe I've been spoilt over the years, we have a shop near us called Winfields its great and has some really good offers

Surprising! The tent display at Go Wakefield always used to be good. Hi Gear is rebranded Gelert kit, exclusive to Go Outdoors. I must say you were caning it to get there from Hull in 45 mins!

I like GoOutdoors.

We have a discount card (it's only flippin £4 a year, so no big deal), they're local to us and often have good deals. Staff are always helpful and always look up my card number without fuss, cos I never remember it.

I don't buy all my kit there, just the deals/items that suit us.

Big thumbs-up from me!

Maybe you CAN get the same prices as GoOutdoors card-holder prices from on-line retailers and e-Bay, but I like to SEE what I'm buying, and to get it now, not when the company decides to send it and I can actually be at home to receive it or get to a depot to collect it!  So guess what - GoOutdoors wins (and the Pudsey branch is only 5 minutes away!!)

I'm lucky and can easily get to Camperlands, Go Outdoors, Decathlon and Winfields. They all have their strengths, (and quite a bit of my money lol), but I would have to say Winfields tent display is second to none.

As I live quite close to that store, and am a frequent visitor, I can assure you that the longest any of those tents have been on display is about three months. Yes some look a bit tatty but they suffer endless visitors walking mud all over the carpets and generally abusing them - I do question the logic of putting carpets in them, but given there are no samples to display they have to use the real thing which quickly get wrecked.

Whilst they have tried to alleviate the mud problem by laying wood chip paths they are still in a field basically. It must be difficult to keep such a display in tip top condition without having to constantly renew the tents used.

So a tad unfair to them I think, but just my 10c.

It was ten times the store it is now when it was Mitchells practical campers, the staff were all very informed on all aspects of camping, not now it is just a discount camping store which i use as and when i see something i want.

I lost my Go Outdoors card and was pretty pleased when i found i could get the discount just by giving my post code etc. I have always found the staff (Wigan) to be v friendly and helpful.

Just a note - i have the Go Outdoors sale brochure (the one with the week by week offers from 24 May to 27 June) in front of me and it states:

"None of these offers are available in Blackburn, Clydebank, Southampton or Swindon"

So when you do visit the stores - go to the right ones!

Mitchells was a different beast. We got our first canvas frame tent there, then our Pennine FC. AFAIK it was a family firm specialising in camping, with some clothing. We loved it.

GO is, well, outdoors, and so picks up other activities of interest to many campers, just as the cyclists, for example, might be interested in lightweight camping.

Whether they can have specialists in every activity in every store is debatable, but if possible it's certainly desirable, I'd agree.

We've probably spoken to more staff in Pudsey, and they've been fine.

If they've got what we want at a there or thereabouts price, we'd use 'em, if only because they're local. But we've bought lots from Yeomans and online suppliers where G.O. didn't stock the item or with their pricing fluctuations, were out of line at the given moment.

Yer pays yer money etc.

We still call it Mitchells even now, bought our old frame tent from them and look where we are now.

Its all their fault we have to get up at 3.30 in the morning for our trip to Cofton.

I was in the Coventry area on Tuesday so called in at Go Outdoors and although I didn't have my card with me the assistant was very helpful and offered to apply the discount from my post code. The store appeared to be in the middle of a major re-fit with large areas closed off so should be well worth a visit again in a couple of weeks or so.

The thing to remember about Go outdoors is that when you purchase online its not picked from a warehouse but the shopfloor. If you phone about an order they cannot tell you if there is stock or not.

They take payment as soon as you order and sometimes forget to inform you that there is no stock..then they refund you. I have gone through this with them 3 times and will now only shop instore which us about 35 miles away, so it has to be a real bargain...to travel that far..
