This is the daftest thread I've seen in ages... You're camping in a field, there's rabbits, hedgehogs, birds, and all sorts of other wildlife p***ing and s****ing all over the place and you're worried about what you might stand on in the showers...

This made me laugh :)

I wear flip flops, not special shower ones, just flips flops. I wipe my feet as I go into the shower block and I mop out the shower after I've used it....it is always clean for the next person.

I can't help but wonder if any one on here sits on the toilet on campsites ??  :)

But talking about sweaty ar$e$ this could lead on to what precautions does one take before sitting on a communal toilet seat

Good point Bob ... um, pee in your wellies instead ?

i have just spent 30 mins reading this thread.

i have laughed at some of the comments, but it has made me think.

i always walked to the showers in my flip-flops and then showered bare foot - much easier than dealing with socks and shoes. i would continue to do so if it wasn't for the fact i developed a varruca after last years camping trip (not caught anywhere else as campsite showers are the only communal ones i have used in the last 5 years).

as odd as it sounds i'd much rather deal with and wash off mud, grass and rabbit poo than catch another varruca!

now thinking about buying some shower only flip-flops, although sliding around in wet flip-flops whilst trying to shower sounds dangerous to me. i suppose it a choice between broken bones and viruses

Brilliant thread, love it.

Dare I start on the topic of leaving soap suds and bits of food in the pot washing sinks as well, or is that a step too far

Yes, I hate that too, but to be fair that is more than likely kids who are sent to do their washing up chores which they no doubt do very well indeed if they want their spending money, but has anyone ever known a kid wash a sink down afterwards?

Yes, my grandchildren were shown exactly how to wash up, rinse off, clean down and be polite to impatient adults. I checked couple of times to make sure. Many don't know how because they use a dish water machine at home.

Mine don't know how because we have nice pots and a belfast sink at home.  I confess to thinking that melamine pots in a metal sink is a good training ground for them.  But it's the OHs job to teach them - I'll just give him a quick reminder to teach them to clear up after themselves.

(I wish I could get as excited about washing up as my 6 year old does).

I think camping is about relaxing and having fun in the most comfortable way possible which, after about 50 years of being damp, cold, and miserable and convincing myself I was enjoying myself, now involves electricity...not interested in a telly, computers, or other such gadgets though.

It's whatever does it for you.  I just love being out in the open air, come rain or shine, but do like my creature comforts too.

And, I have to confess it is my OH that leaves the bubbles in the sink not the kids - does it at home too, something I've never been able to cure him of, but hey - can't all be perfect - if he does the pots, I don't mind clearing the sink - team work.
