Does anyone know where you can buy them foil thingies that you can put between the air bed and the groundsheet? i've heard these reflect the cold and damp is this true?
Hi nikkilincs we got some of these from our local Tesco Extra on Sunday at £1.97 each. They were located by the section with the camping gear on a hanging diplay at the end of the aisle.
oh my life!we used these once to put between us and the air bed .evey time we moved it crackled. if you cant get them in time use something like a picnic blanket.dont forget your insulation is better on top of the air bed.we use a fleece blanket/or picnic blanket held on with a fitted sheet.
We put a foam backed picnic blanket on the floor then the airbed then a fleece blanket - it works !! oh and then us !!
Few folk on here recommend the underlay that you use when you laminate your floor. Very lightweight and low cost - we are tempted to give that a whirl this year aswell.
you wont get any sleep if you use foil blankets as they make alot of noise when you move in the night, used one night and tent neighbours made a comment following day,all taken in good humour.but removed them..
We use them when it's really cold and never hear any noise from them only problem we had was we go toooooo hot but other than that great bit of kit try the cheap shops , things like pound land that type of shop keep them also look in first aid section of shops
The Tesco near to us sold the silver foil too. It wasn't very wide but came in 10, 20, 30 and 50 metre rolls. Plus you can use it roast your turkey, wrap up sandwiches in etc, really handy stuff. Well priced and good value for money too
Our Tesco did have some in a few weeks ago at 99p, but have sold out now. However, Milletts do them, but they're £2.99 or £3.99, can't remember exactly
For the temperatures involved, any effect of reflecting heat by foil is negligible. A black bin liner would have similar benefits (it probably traps a small layer of air) but the best benefit is from anything that 'insulates' rather than reflects i.e. traps bubbles of air nd doesn't let them move - e.g. insulating foam, blankets, etc.
Another niggle is that you can never re-pack those foil blankets as small as they first came. I reckon the effect of having one of those below you would be negligible. They are really meant just as an extra layer for retaining heat in the body in emergencies. I would rather use a foam filled self-inflating mattress than mess about with different layers like that.
