Sorry I,m relatively new to this forum but it seems that this Cadac versus Cobb argument is a perennial on these boards.

It strikes me that the argument is not needed as they are not the same thing so shouldnt be compared, ( OK they are both cookers but you wouldnt argue about the relative merits of a portable barbecue and a halogen hob!).

The Cobb is a portable barbecue and its detractors are right in that it is slow and probably a bit tempremental (havent had it long enough to know), but it appeals to those of us for whom the cooking of a meal outdoors over charcoal is part of the appeal of our hobby.

I,m not incredibly familiar with the Cadac but it is an outdoor gas ring and will appeal to those people who dont like barbecuing and want it cooked quickly.

Personally I now have a Cobb for my special event cooking and a two ring Coleman petrol stove for when I want it quick.

Vive la difference, Cadac owners please love your Cadacs and let us Cobb users love our smokey charcoal (some lucky people on here seem to be able to enjoy both).

the best thing we find with the cobb is that once its lit, and food has been put in to cook, you then have plenty of time to relax/play games/have a few beers/etc while its cooking.  it's then a very simple matter of dishing up once its all cooked.

Totaly agree eel28, you havn't got to sit and watch it.

In our van we have a Cobb, a standard fold up charcoal BBQ from B & Q that has a lid and legs that fold up like an ironing board, a small Briefcase BBQ thats about on its last legs, another couple of meals and its for the bin (replaced by the B & Q one) and a Cadac Carrichef.

Of all of them the Cobb gets used the most as it cooks like an oven, I have three gas rings in the van so the cadac tends to get used for Breakfast if we are not in a hurry, or if we are away with friends and need more capacity.

Try cooking bread fresh bread rolls from dough on a cadac
