Just go back from 10 days with my tent. Weather great but temperature dropped right down at night!
Have decided to upgrade my 3 season bag to a genuine 4 season all the round bag.
Can it be done for under £100?
Thanks, Ian
I've four Vango Summit 8000s for the family and while they where warm over easter they weren't that warm, and that was with a liner as well.
As Stuart suggests I'd have a look at a down bag, Alpkit does the cheapest quality ones I've seen. Try their 700 bag, 25% lighter than the Vango and has a comfort rating a whole 10 degrees lower, yet only £20 dearer (Alpkit has free postage, Outdoormegastore does not).
I contacted Alpkit with my "problem" and they replied very quickly suggesting indeed their 700 with their Airic mat( I'm needing a much better foldable mat on the same lines!)
So I think(!) that's the way I'm going.
I'll have to make my mind up soon as I'll need them both in two weeks
Assuming you are not backpacking and that packed size and weight are not crucial factors then there could be a cheaper alternative than a down bag.
In the long distant past have used a three season mummy style bag inside a cheap 1/2 season bag in winter in Scotland. Very warm.
I recently purchased a couple of ScafellRock King-sized 2-3 season bags from Walmart 230cm x 90cm 300g/m2 labelled "extreme -5degrees" - around £20 I think. Combine one of them with a smaller bag, maybe your existing bag and you will have a warm and flexible solution for under £50.
