i just had to post how fab my sleep mats were

last year we had several punctures in my airbeds, so i have given up on them completely, and they were PITA to pump up and deflate anyway

we bought thermarest prolite3 selfinflating mats, okay not cheap, but OMG they were soooo comfy, and warm,

my kiddies have a double cheaper version of a self inflating mat which they said was better then an airbed as it didn't wobble around and they couldn't wiggle off it in their bags! i tried theirs out but am too heavy, the thermarest did make a huge difference in comparison to comfort

so now i am on a mission to find good quality v's price kids ones

and they pack amazingly small, better then airbeds ever did

I have these and are a great cheaper alternative to the Thermarest

well i slept lovely, neither of us are tall (both 5'7) so they are plenty long enough for us

i am quite lightweight, o/h is not, but he had no complaints

we have the prolite mats which are thinner and lighter then standard and pack up very small, there are standard versions and thicker ones which may be suitable if heavier/bigger or just because ppl like more padding

i am dead impressed that something sooo thin can suport an adult though

thing is the little ones look great for kids, but my bigger one is 10 now, so am wondering if its worth buying her a  short mat at all?

This may seem like a strange question but I would appreciate the thoughts of people who have used these mats.

Our son is still wet sometimes when we are away which is not really a problem as we always have a spare set of bedding. However we have just got a new caravan and although we use a waterproof mattress protector to protect the seat cushions I am wondering if one of these mats could be used as a sort of mattress topper and we could put the waterproof protector over that on top of the caravan bed. It would give us an extra layer  between our son and the seat cushions because sometimes at home even with a waterproof protector the bed still occasionnally gets a bit wet at the edge of the mattress. I would like to try and prevent the seat cushion from getting wet as it would be difficult to clean them.

Can I ask...those who find the slef-inflating mattresses comfy do you sleep on your front, back or side? I ask this because I tend to sleep on my side so don't think they are deep enough to be comfy whereas dh said he was quite happy to have one but he tends to sleep on his back/front more.
