Hello all am looking at buying our first cooker, we know we want to do breakfasts and bbq and were looking at the cobb and the cadac but are concerned on space in the car and how good these really are, we are a family with a 4 year old and a baby i suppose i would have to get a single burner as well for emergency beans on toast, any advice most welcome
Whilst I love the Cobb, you can't really use it as your sole cooker; you do need some sort of gas hobb too. We have a twin gas burner with a grill beneath. The gas gets used every morning, and the Cobb most evenings.
There are probably folk who manage just with a Cadac, but personally I like to be able to do a few things at the same time.
We do the same as Trekkin Tekkie, twin burner for breakfast and Cobb in the evenings. Before we had the Cobb we used a cheap bbq in the evenings. It's so much nicer to sit around with a glass of wine and food cooking on the bbq than having to stand over the stove stirring pots etc.
We have a simple Campingaz Lagon 2 burner with lid that acts as a windshield but no grill. Very cheap and takes no space but needs a gas bottle and regulator. We have also bought a double griddle plate to fit over this and replace our Cadac which is taking up too much space in the car. We also have a single burner that we will take with us on longer trips so we have something to put a pan on if the 2 rings are covered by the griddle.
We have just bought a cadac and love it. It is very easy to put up and clean and there is stacks of room on it if cooking for numbers. When packed away it doesnt seem to take up too much space (although we do have a big boot). I was a bit of a die hard 'you must cook over charcoal' but I must admit the flavour of the meat of the cadac is fantastic. We do have a gas stove in the TT which we still use for boiling the spuds etc.
