This might be like How long is a piece of string? But

What gsm rating would you recommend. Mainly for ambient spring/summer camping.

They are on offer in argos mainly thinking about kids as I like my quilt.

IMHO you would need a 3 season rating .. maybe 350gsm or above.. for spring camping.

I agree you realy need a 350 bag (3 season) in the UK Spring/Summer climate. I also use sleeping bag liners which some say will make it up to a 4 season rating but have never tested this theory. We have Vango 350 bags wth liners and they are fine for fair weather camping, at times I am too warm and end up sleeping in just the liner. The other benefit of liners is that you wont have to wash the bags so often and therefore will prolong the life of the sleeping bag.

The kids sleeping bags were bought in Argos and now in their fifth year . No problems with them whatsoever. 

When it is cooler, get yourself dressed for bed. A pair of bed socks are great, and perhaps a t-shirt on below the flannelnet PJ's.  If really cold, gt the hot water bottle out.(wrap the PJ's around the Hot water bottle for a while beforehand)

Take  a  fleece blanket to chuck  over the top of  sleeping bags  or similar

 i  have  a  400 gsm  sleeping bag  that get chucked on top of  old   double  sleeping bag  if cold and this  does the trick  nicely .  Also   i have   fleece blanket  on top of airbed and those shiny  foil  mats  underneath it  . was out  in  near frost camping  in  early april  and ws  fine  with that set up .
